On June 3, 2026, the European Commission unveiled a new package of measures, the European Technology Sovereignty Package, aimed at reducing the EU’s dependence on non-European suppliers of key technologies—which exceeds 80% in some strategic areas— and thereby strengthen Europe’s digital independence and resilience.
The European Technology Sovereignty Package is based on four pillars: the legislative proposals for the Cloud and AI Development Act (CADA) and the Chips Act 2.0, supplemented by the Open Source Strategy and the Strategic Plan for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in the Energy Sector.
